Cecil cranked up the volume on his iPod as progressive rock music blared through the speakers, headbanging to the beat as he traveled brusquely through Route 29 towards his destination. He might have been more careful, but with his trusted friends at his side, he felt he didn't really need to worry. Colette and Nicolai would do a fine job of keeping a look out for those dangerous Sentret and those dastardly Hoothoot all on their own. The Chatot yawned sleepily as she kept watch towards the front, while the Sneasel hung from his trainer's back, claws carefully retracted so as to prevent harm.
What was he doing? Oh, just a normal day on his way to receive his first starter. There hadn't been any teary goodbyes or much of that sort; he lived just over in Cherrygrove, he'd be seeing them again on his round-trip back the other way. But first, to New Bark Town! He had to get his starter before he could leave. He might have thought that the ones he had already were enough, but at the same time he didn't mind having another free Pokemon. That meant he'd only need to catch three more before his team would be complete. Talk about the easy life!
He drudged up what little effort he could to keep from kicking down the door to Professor Elm's in his excitement, and managed to at least knock politely before barging in, immediately taking in all the sights and sounds of a new place he'd never been in before. He had to admit that the dingy old lab was a bit of a let down; he'd expected weird experiments and bubbling tubes and super-computers... Oh well. It was still pretty cool, for what it was worth. Going on his brother's description of "that almost bald guy," he searched out the area for the one and only Professor Elm.
