Connor stumbled. His mouth was dry, throat aching for water. Just a slight trickle of the cool, refreshing liquid would be enough. The thirteen year old was dressed in tattered clothes, sweaty, smelly, and his stomach ached for food. But worse than it all was the need of water. He'd been walking for two days now, and be longed to find civilzation. He didn't even know where he was. He'd just stepped through the portal, and ended up here. He'd seen signs claiming this land to be the Hoenn region. He'd been born there, and never travelled away from Fallarbor and the surrounding areas. This was the furthest from home he'd ever been. He'd only recently discovered where home was, too.
He looked like a ghost. The weak, fragile form of a child was deathly pale, his stark white hair pasted down with sweat, his gleaming red eyes completing the albino's strange appearance. A long, snaking tail ended in a faded, small, blue flame. The Pokémorph knew that this was a sign that he didn't have much time left. His wings half unfolded, in case he had need to fly to search for a town. That made him look... almost like an unearthly creature. As his side walked an equally white and red-eyed Aracanine, which panted restlessly. She turned into a Tailow without warning, fluttering to rest on Connor's head. She was fading fast, and spots were starting to appear before Connor's eyes.
"Connor, it's getting dark. We've got to find a town soon, before it's too late!" the Tailow spoke in perfect English. This was his daemon, his soul. "I know, Vivime. Don't worry. It'll be fine." he said.
Night fell, the stars lighting up the sky, twinkling down on Connor and Vivime. He gritted his teeth. How could the sky be so cheery when such terrible things were happening to him? Suddenly, however, he forgot all about that, and stopped in his tracks. He thought he'd heard a voice. "Listen." he spoke a single word. Vivime became a Zubat, a Pokémon with much better hearing. She detected voices; human voices, and doors and the like. A town, for sure. "Connor, it's a town. Come on, follow me!" she grinned, darting off towards the town. Connor raced after her, somehow finding the strength.
They passed like ghosts through the cool, still night, and it wasn't too long until they reached a sign. Connor read it. Littleroot Town. Aha! He had heard of that place. Littleroot, where Professor Birch lived and handed out starter Pokémon! With one of those, he'd be able to stand a much greater chance of survival, plus he'd have a companion. Wings tucked in tightly under his thin T-Shirt, he strode about, eventually finding the laboratory where Birch went about his work. The lights were still on; the Professor must still be within. With a smile through his cracked lips and a satisfied grunt, Connor walked purposely up to the door. He'd be able to get water, too, hopefully. Vivime became a Hoothoot on his shoulder, and he rapped on the door.
